Some Lamp Looks to Love

Looks That Will Have You Lit Up

If the key to a great lighting plan is layers (and it is), what does a lamp offer? Can a room be complete without one? Lamps are an essential layer, contributing welcoming, relaxing accents and sometimes functioning as a task light.

A durable standby, the lamp adds decorative beauty and a crucial layer of light at the same time. A portable is not a big commitment: It doesn't have the same cost as heavier, more permanent, more elaborate lighting fixtures; it doesn't require putting a hole in the wall or ceiling, nor hiring an electrician. You just plug and play.

Yet the simple addition of a table lamp increases texture and dimension in the room's décor. It's an easy, low-stakes way to add some style to your space, a perfect option for an inexpensive refresh.

A couple classic places to use a lamp are the entryway and bedroom.

Lamps in the foyer or hall adjoining the front door provide a stylish entrance. Use two on a table to create a pleasing vignette. They could be used on either side of a mirror or work of art as accent light in lieu of sconces.

Both as a welcoming, warm accent layer of light and as a source of illumination for any essentials you might keep there for heading out the door—maybe you drop off the mail here, or have a place for the keys?—the trusty table lamp plays an important role in this space.

In sitting areas or next to the bed, table lamps contribute toward a mellow mood to kick back in while providing enough light to read by. Bringing in textures and colors that feel natural and restorative, recent Troy lamps like Artifact and Zen are a perfect complement to spaces with a calm neutral décor. Of course, they're equally adept at elegantly contrasting spaces with more visual intensity, like more color and texture, maybe even shining with layers of lacquer.

It's worth noting Zen comes in another shape and has a unique shade, which continues its fabric around from the top, with a circle open for accent light to spill up and out as well as diffuse through the sides.

Everything Zen? We think so.
